Historic Preservation in Action: Harmony Hall-Jacob Sloat House's Exterior Revival!

After decades of neglect, the 1848 Clapboard of Harmony Hall was painted over three days in July 2026 by Willow Tree Painting. The dramatic improvement has been a long desired critical exterior restoration project by The Friends of Harmony Hall-Jacob Sloat House. In their project proposal Willow Tree Painting noted “the work you and your group have put into preserving this historic building is incredible, and it is clear how much care and dedication has gone into bringing it (Harmony Hall), back from disrepair”.

The painting of Harmony Hall exterior follows a highly successful restoration of the front veranda of the house which was mobilized over 2025. The FOHH received a Historic Preservation Merit Award at the 33rd Rockland County Executive’s Historic Preservation Awards on May 17, 2026 from The Historical Society of Rockland County.

The painted clapboard project required hand scraping, sanding, application of primer and two coats of exterior paint. The newly vibrant house exterior is a logical restoration transition after the successful extensive front porch project, and restores the visual integration of defining original exterior architectural features!
