About The Event

It is a little-known fact that Jacob Sloat, entrepreneur, inventor, investor, land owner, and builder of Harmony Hall, died in 1857 without a will. This talk follows the four-year legal battle of his wife Sarah to become the executor of his estate. In 1857, women did not have the same rights as women today. Along the way, we will get a glimpse at what the estate contained and what has been lost to us today. Primary source documents, uncovered in the archives of the Town of Ramapo, will be used to trace this journey and reveal why everything and nothing has changed since then. $5 suggested donation - members free. Light refreshments.
